Add VAT to a net amount

Enter the net amount before tax and the VAT rate. The calculator shows the VAT amount, gross total, and how much of the final figure is tax.

Quick VAT presets for quotes and invoices.

Formula

How to add VAT to a price

Gross price = Net price × (1 + VAT / 100)
VAT amount = Net price × (VAT / 100)

If the net amount is $100 and VAT is 23%, the VAT amount is $23 and the gross total becomes $123. The gross total is useful for display or invoicing, while the net amount remains the right number for pricing and margin work.

Where it helps

  • Preparing VAT-inclusive quotes and invoices.
  • Checking gross totals for storefronts or price sheets.
  • Separating tax from the underlying commercial price.

Review note

How PricingDeck uses this VAT calculator

How we calculate it

  • The gross total is calculated by multiplying the net amount by one plus the VAT rate.
  • The VAT amount is shown separately so the tax layer never gets confused with margin.
  • Default examples are reviewed against common European VAT-style pricing flows.

Editorial context

This page is designed for quote building, invoicing checks, and pricing reviews. It is not a substitute for local VAT registration, filing, or invoice compliance rules, which still vary by jurisdiction.

FAQ

Add VAT calculator questions

Do I add VAT before or after markup?

Usually you set the commercial price first, then add VAT on top. Margin and markup work is normally cleaner on the net amount before VAT is added.

Can I use this add VAT calculator for quotes and invoices?

Yes. This calculator is useful when you already know the net amount and need the VAT amount plus the gross total for a quote, invoice, or product sheet.

What if I only know the gross total including VAT?

If the only number you have is VAT-inclusive, use the remove VAT calculator to recover the net amount before checking margin or markup.
